FROM STEWARDSHIP LEARNED EARLY TO LEADERSHIP AT SCALE

As the youngest of six children, Ken grew up on a working cattle ranch in southern Alberta, where actions mattered more than words and getting things done was simply expected. You learned quickly that responsibility wasn’t something you talked about; it was something you carried. The land taught him lasting lessons about caring for something you don’t truly own, but are accountable for just the same.

Stewardship meant leaving things better than

you found them, whether anyone was watching or not.

Stewardship meant leaving things better than you found them, whether anyone was watching or not.

That sense of responsibility never left him.

From an early age, Ken was drawn to work where decisions produced real results.
He was interested in how people organize,
how resources are allocated, and how hard choices get made when trade-offs are unavoidable. Leadership, for him, was never theoretical. It was practical. It was about outcomes.

That curiosity led him east to the Harvard Kennedy School, where he deliberately designed an education spanning business,
law, finance, and public policy. He didn’t
want to choose a single lane. He wanted

to understand how capital, regulation, and leadership intersect, and why breakdowns occur when accountability is unclear.

Ken’s career has followed that same logic ever since.

Alongside public service, Ken built and governed businesses in highly regulated industries including insurance distribution, energy, and data infrastructure. Over decades, he has been responsible for livelihoods, balance sheets, and long-horizon decisions where risk is real and consequences affect everyone involved.

He has served in strategic and governance roles on teams that created enterprise value worth hundreds of millions of dollars and growing.

This work taught Ken what leadership actually feels like when execution matters. Allocating capital under uncertainty. Making decisions without perfect information. Moving decisively while remaining accountable for the outcome.

Public service deepened that responsibility.

Ken served as a Member of Parliament, Alberta’s Energy Minister, and the founding Chair of Canada’s largest healthcare delivery service, helping bring together twelve separate organizations responsible for the care of millions of people and supported by more than 100,000 employees. He led through political volatility, institutional resistance, and intense public scrutiny, always focused on execution, accountability, and results rather than ideology.

Across both business and public life, a clear pattern emerged. Ken does his best work when the work is unfinished, the stakes are high, and decisions must reconcile moral responsibility with operational reality.

He is known for asking the hard and uncomfortable questions others avoid, bringing clarity to complexity, and helping leaders move forward without compromising integrity or long-term trust.

Today, that calling is most visible in his role as Chair of the Board at Providence Therapeutics, where he is helping advance an entirely new approach to conquering cancer. The company’s precision therapies are designed to destroy tumors with far less trauma, avoiding many of the brutal interventions patients have historically endured. For Ken, this work is personal, urgent, and grounded in a simple conviction:

Ken’s work now spans business, healthcare innovation, governance, public policy, and emerging technologies, but the throughline has never changed.

When decisions affect lives, institutions, and the future, results matter. And the strongest results are built without shortcuts, through integrity, discipline, and care for the people who will live with them long after the headlines fade.
